Report Highlights Opportunities for Equitable and Inclusive Development
PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 9, 2021) – The North Broad Renaissance (NBR), in partnership with Econsult Solutions, Inc., released its 2022 State of North Broad report that highlights efforts to spur stronger and more inclusive growth along the North Broad Street corridor. The report comes ahead of the Annual State of North Broad fundraiser that achieved record-breaking fundraising of more than $100,000 that the NBR will reinvest back into the corridor. In addition, the report highlights development in growth in areas of population, employment, and development, and also features opportunities to ensure that the efforts being made in these areas are equitable and inclusive.
“Along North Broad Street and across the region, 2022 was still a year of recovery,” said Shalimar Thomas, Executive Director of the North Broad Renaissance. “The purpose of this year’s report is to highlight that growth is continuing to happen along the corridor and to also help stakeholders and leaders keep the severe inequities that were exposed during 2021 at the top of our agendas, as we all work towards recovery and ultimately growth.”
Highlights from the report included more than 1,800 residential units being added in previous years, as well as 290 building permits requested. In addition, upcoming development includes 3,000 residential units, more than 500,000 sq. ft. in office space, and more than 250,000 sq. ft. in retail space.
The 2022 State of North Broad report also covers the work of the NBR’s Executive Director and Board of Directors’ accomplishments, which include the creation of the North Broad Real Estate Commission (NBREC). This coalition of real estate owners and developers is driving a collaborative approach to development along North Broad to support equitable, community-oriented real estate projects.
In addition, because of the violence epidemic currently facing Philadelphia, the report also highlights Public Safety along North Broad Street and the hope that the newly renovated, state-of-the-art Philadelphia Police Headquarters will bring significant employment and a strong safety presence to North Broad Street.
The 2022 State of North Broad report is now available here on the North Broad Renaissance website.
